I have spent most of my career working as an archivist and research librarian. My academic credentials include:

a BA in history from Ohio University.

a MA in history from Wright State University.

an MBA from Baker University.

an MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

In my career I have worked for the following institutions:

The Virginia Historical Society,

the Kansas Historical Society,

the New London County Historical Society,

the University of North Carolina at Charlotte,

Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary, and

Westminster Theological Seminary in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

I also have emeritus status with the Academy of Certified Archivists.

With a background like this, I have seen the research environment from the points of view of the student, the librarian the archivist, and the professor.

In my work as an academic librarian, I could see that a lot of college students are ill-prepared to write research papers. Seeing the problem, I developed an extensive power point program that shows students how to navigate libraries, engage in college-level research, develop a thesis question or a thesis statement, quote and footnote sources, write at the university level, and develop bibliographies. This lesson made a tremendous difference in the success of the students I tutored. Students who were on academic probation got off probation. Average students became honor roll students. Many were able to raise their GPAs to qualify them for scholarships that previously had eluded them.

Without exception, every student I have ever worked with made the same remark: “This makes so much sense! Why didn’t anyone ever teach me this before! It would have made things so much easier!”
